Carley and Al: The Wedding

By Sarah Gray

From start to finish, the welcome table to the final dance – this wedding was one for the books (and the blogs)! Carley and Al (emphasis on Carley) planned an incredible wedding that could not have turned out more perfectly. Located at the Prospect Lake Community Hall, decorated to the rafters with colorful details, disco balls and stunning florals, this wedding celebration was truly the best day ever.

If you want more of a backstory on this particular couple, you can find out more about Carley here and read all about their engagement story here. Okay, onwards without further adieu!

With a dip and a kiss…

The ceremony could easily be described as the perfect combination of sentimental, adorable and filled to the brim with love. Their officiant Chris-Ann Lake delivered thoughtfully written anecdotes about their love story, minor flexes like Carley’s duolingo streak and had the guests laughing and/or crying happy tears throughout it all.

The wedding party was adorned with stunning colourful gowns, crisp suits, and utterly incredible colour blocked florals created by Bespoke Blossoms. There were no strangers here as this crew was made up of lifelong friends and siblings of the bride – what better way to spend your wedding day than surrounded with all your besties?!

Mingle, mingle, mingle!

During cocktail hour guests mingled, photos were taken and drinks were enjoyed. Twist of Fate served up personalized cocktails, one for the bride and one for the groom.

Pro Planning tip: If you decide to do a first look with your partner before the ceremony we find that this helps reduce nerves when you are standing in front of everyone saying your vows. This also means you can have your wedding party group photos and portraits taken earlier in the day and then stay on site to enjoy your cocktail hour instead of heading to a second location.

Carley and Al chose to do this which meant they could take photos with family and friends on site then grab a drink and enjoy visiting with everyone who had come to help them celebrate!

When it came time for guests to find their seats for dinner all they had to do was get ready to “Par-tee”! Carley designed this super creative and fun seating chart that not only helped guests find their seats but was also just fun to look at! Can you guess what Al‘s favorite sport is?

Each guests name was hand painted on their very own golf ball, the balls were then arranged by mini putting green or table. Finally, the putting greens were arranged according to the layout of the tent.

Confetti but make it formal…

After tirelessly planning and creating detailed maps and directions the bride took a step back and focused on enjoying her wedding weekend. Meanwhile, our amazing Lead Planner Madi took over and ensured everything was set up flawlessly.

Each table section was color blocked using the flowers, napkins, menu cards and name cards. When asked how she would describe this design plan, Carley said she had coined her own term and called it “Confetti Formal”. We love a confetti moment and we can’t love this concept more!

When it came to choosing an emcee for the evening, Carley asked a few of her Wedding Planner pals to help out. We accepted and dressed accordingly in pops of color!

The House of Boateng provided the most delicious selection of food for dinner. Four unique food stations featuring local ingredients had guests lining up for seconds AND thirds! Following dinner, dessert was provided by Hazel’s Ice Cream. Their team is super friendly and always willing to help you choose which flavor of icecream to indulge in!

The speeches oh the speeches! Each speech was a beautiful reflection of the type of people that Carley and Al are. They also highlighted the quality of people that this bride and groom choose to surround themselves with. The perfect combination if you ask us, and we are kind of speech specialists!! By the way, don’t think for a second that the father of the bride didn’t sing Taylor Swift partway through his speech… because he totally did. And, it was awesome. Cake followed speeches and then it was time for the party to begin!

Time to dance!

As guests flooded inside the hall for dancing, the Twist of Fate team had a Victoria fan favourite, Shafts, ready to serve! Now, with a tasty beverage in hand everyone created a circle around the newlyweds. As it should now be clear there was no part of this special day that was left untouched by thoughtful planning and that includes the first dance, of course! The bride and groom had committed themselves to learning, practicing and executing a first dance that truly wowed all of their guests.

In honor of the brides Jewish roots, the Hora quickly followed the first dance and bride and groom were held aloft above the heads of their closest (and hopefully strongest) guests! Ian and Karli from Beauty and the Beat DJ played their role perfectly and kept the tunes rocking all night long! The DJ booth was dressed to impress! It was piled high with balloons, disco balls, tassels and a custom neon sign. The ceiling over the dance floor was adorned with colorful tassels created by the bride and friends, later hung up by Designer Weddings alongside balloon bursts made up by some of the Good Party girls.

For a fun added surprise (from The Good Party to the happy couple) some of our team designed and built a balloon tunnel for fun and photos!

Carley and Al – Mr and Mrs. Your wedding was absolutely spectacular. For those of us who were in attendance, it was truly an honor to witness the love that you have for each other, especially on what was a very special day! We are so happy for the two of you – Carley, you finally got your wedding and Al, you finally got your bride! From the entire Good Party team we wish you a lifetime of love, fun and adventure!
