City of Langford – Free Wreath Crafternoons: FAQs

By Emma McCormick

’tis the season for holiday fun! If you follow along on our Instagram account, you already know that last week we announced that our holiday wreath making crafternoons are back and better than ever! This year the City of Langford is hosting free wreath making crafternoons (aka DIY workshops) as part of their Christmas in Langford activity line-up. Read on to get the scoop on what to expect for our two weekends of festive fun at Veterans Memorial Park in the heart of Langford!

Christmas in Langford? Tell me more.

The City of Langford is hosting four jam packed afternoons of holiday activities leading up to Christmas and our wreath making crafternoons are part of the line-up. There’s going to be Sugar Cookie Decorating 101 with Laura and the team from Schur to Please Boutique Cakery, live ice carving demonstrations from Cool As Ice, a Rockin’ Christmas Sign-A-Long, and, on the final weekend, photo fun with the big guy in red himself and our pals from Four Frames Photo Booth.

Wreath Making Sessions? I’m in.

Awesome. We knew you would be.

Our wreath workshops will run at the following dates and times at Veterans Memorial Park:

  • Saturday, December 14th at 2pm & 3.15pm
  • Sunday, December 15th at 2pm & 3.15pm
  • Saturday, December 21st at 2pm & 3.15pm
  • Sunday, December 22nd at 2pm & 3.15pm

What is the cost?

It’s FREE. Yes, you read that right!

These crafternoons are free to attend and include step-by-step beginner paced instruction and all supplies. #thanksLangford

While these workshops are free to attend, the City of Langford is asking that you bring a non-perishable food item or donation as a contribution to the local food bank. There will be volunteers at the park collecting the donations – your support is greatly appreciated!

How do I reserve my spot?

Good question! You don’t.

These workshops are first come, first serve and can accommodate 30 participants per session.

If you want to come early to grab your spot, we will have a sign-up form available at 1.15pm; you can put your name down to ensure you have a spot in your workshop time slot of choice. Then you can hop over to Bin 4 Burger Lounge for a bite or whip up to House of Boateng for a turmeric latte (so good!) before coming back for your time slot.

Whether you participate in the 2pm workshop or the 3.15pm workshop, there will be lots happening around the park so enjoy some cookie decorating or carol singing while you wait or after you’ve completed your work of evergreen art.

Can I bring a group of friends?

Absolutely! Plan to round up your pals – the more the merrier! But please keep in mind, it’s first come, first serve and if your friends want to snag a spot in advance by using the sign-up form, they’ll need to put their names down themselves.

What ages are the workshops suited for?

Anyone is welcome to attend; however, children under 10 will be asked to work alongside a parent or guardian who isn’t already busy creating their own wreath. Workshops are self-paced once we start adding the greenery, and you can expect it to take approximately 45-60 minutes.

It’s December, won’t it be cold?

It might be, but these activities are happening outside regardless.

There will be tents to keep us dry but please bundle up to keep warm. You’ll find that once we get moving around and start building our wreaths, you’ll warm up very quickly.

Should I bring anything?

As above, a small donation or non-perishable food item is appreciated!

Additionally, if you have a pair of handheld floral/outdoor clippers, please bring those! We have lots, but you’ll likely have to share the tools with the person next to you.

Where should I park?

There is a small lot by the West Shore Chamber of Commerce, right by the playground; however, we recommend simply grabbing some street parking on Aldwynd Road.

Anything else?

That’s it for now! Please feel free to send us an email with any additional questions and we’ll get back to you ASAP.

See you there!!
