Jenny and John’s Whimsical Westcoast Wedding

By Sarah Gray

Jenny and John wanted their wedding venue to be close enough to Victoria that the focus would be on the celebration and not the travel. They were hoping for somewhere that highlighted the beauty of the west coast, was oceanfront (if possible), had accommodation for family on site and a bit of that backyard magic too. Read on to find out how Lead Planner Anouk worked with this lovely couple to find the perfect venue for their 2022 wedding and planned and designed the whole event too!

Meet: Jenny and John. They met, fell in love, got engaged and then it was time to get married! This is when The Good Party got a call!

Finding the venue…

We love helping our clients find the perfect spot to get married! Often we do this for clients who are from out of town but we also work with Vancouver Island residents who want to know all the possible options so that they can make the best choice while keeping all their dreams in mind. In this case Anouk did just that. She met with Jenny and John and chatted through their list of priorities for the big day, what were non-negotiables about the wedding venue (ie: accomodation for themselves and family) and what options they had already taken a look at. After this initial meeting Anouk compiled a detailed information package outlining all the suitable options for Jenny and John to take a look at. As a larger team we are fortunate to be able to use each other as a resource when it comes to lots of things. For venues this can be super helpful for finding out details about venues that we personally have not worked at but others on the team have. Anouk guided Jenny and John through this process and helped them narrow down the options.

Ultimately Jenny and John chose to host their wedding celebrations at Anderson Lane. This gorgeous private property, located in Cobble Hill, is one The Good Party team first had the pleasure of visiting in the summer of 2020. With stunning ocean views, sprawling lawns and gardens, six bedrooms and lots of space both indoors and out, Anderson Lane was the perfect venue for this lovely couple.

Fun fact: This event was the first big wedding held at Anderson Lane! Our team was thrilled to be part of hosting such a successful (and might we add gorgeous) wedding at this new venue.

Design details!

As well as planning the logistics for the event and helping Jenny and John find their venue, Anouk also took the lead on designing all the beautiful details for the day. Along with inspiration from Jenny and John, Anouk used her expertise and creativity to take the initial inspirations and make them a reality. Jenny requested pink accents, ‘simple and romantic’ and lots of flowers. They wanted to incorporate unique to them touches as well as have functional pieces that looked beauitful.

As well as working with The Good Party Anouk owns a small business called Structuur that specializes in custom and pre-made arches, back drops and signage. Needless to say she was the perfect person to be leading this design which she elevated by designing custom backdrops and signage for the day. Anouk commented that she was given “creative freedom” by the couple which really meant she was able to dive into the process and bring to life some really fun concepts.

“It’s always been you” is a lyric from a favorite song of Jenny and John’s. If these photos make you go out and buy a custom sign for your wedding you can thank us later 😉

If you’re curious about the pickle bar. Us too! The bride Jenny loves pickles. Rumor has it she can eat a whole jar in one day! As a special treat the event caterers caught wind of this adn created a specialty pickle bar including but not limited to pickled chips and breaded pickles. We love a pickle bar!

The florals, oh the florals…

Flowers, we love love love them! Jenny and John were keen to have lots of flowers as part of the overall design. Florals are always fun to find inspiration and plan for and The Good Party’s Lead Planners love working with florists to create the perfect end result. Anouk worked with Virginia, from Wild Floret, to ensure that flowers were a focal point throughout the day. Wild Floret always does an incredible job and and as you can see for yourself this time was no different! We love this garden style floral design and think it fit perfectly with the rest of the design!

The feeling is mutual!

When we work with clients we typically get to know them over the course of several months if not a year (or even two)! This means we often find ourselves forming a friendship or at very least a really wonderful working relationship. Anouk loved spending time planning with and for Jenny and John and obviously the feeling was mutual because they included her and her work in their thank you speech and it brought all the feels (see photo below). We love you J and J!

Time to party!

The real party started when Jenny and John opened up the dance floor on their custom decaled flooring. Although the pattern is hard to see in these photos we promise it was there and it was stunning. We love when we get to go the extra mile and a custom decal on the dancefloor is definitely one of those markers for us. If you want one, just let us know! The party rocked on into the night and while the candles may have melted down their custom neon sign did not lose its glow!

It was such an honour to be part of your wedding celebrations J and J! We loved getting to work alongside you two to ensure all of the details (design and otherwise) were taken care of. We wish you a happy one year anniversary and send wishes for so many sweet years together to come!
