Julia and Justin’s Qualicum Beach Wedding: Design Details!

By Sarah Gray

Julia and Justin’s elegant Qualicum Beach wedding was a stunning affair! We’ve wanted to share more details about this West Coast inspired design for awhile now and are thrilled to say that time is now! From florals to tables and chairs, we will highlight both the functional and the fancy. Find out more below about who we worked with to make this gorgeous wedding a reality!

You can ask anyone on the team and they will tell you that one of our favorite parts of being Wedding Planners is designing our client’s wedding. What does that mean? Well, simply put it is what the wedding will look like (will there be long tables or round, will the main color be pink or green, what will the guest experience be like?). Some new clients come to us with a pinterest board they’ve been curating since they were twelve. Others come with just a color scheme, others know the date of their wedding and that’s it! Whatever the case, we love to help make the magic happen and Julia and Justin’s wedding was no exception!

Julia and Justin wanted to highlight the natural beauty of their venue and surrounding area with an added touch of elegance. With the venue in mind we quickly came up with a game plan and then were off to the races!

The Venue

Located in the heart of Qualicum Beach, the Crown Mansion Boutique Hotel and Villas was the perfect spot for Julia and Justin’s wedding weekend. This stunning property offers gorgeous accomodations with king size beds, crystal chandeliers, views of the ocean or gardens and a forest beyond the manicured lawn.

The entire wedding party and some guests were able to stay on site while the rest of the guests stayed closeby at the Qualicum Beach Inn which meant that everyone was close by and could easily meet up for walks on the beach or drinks at a local spot!

Ceremony Florals

With an emphasis on white and green we worked with Persephone Bloom Studio to ensure the florals would be perfect. We might be bias but we think Cailyn and her team knocked it out of the park! The ceremony was set with a lush forest as the back drop and their nearest and dearest as their witnesses. Surrounded by a crown of white roses and with their wedding party by their sides, Julia and Justin tied the knot. We love love and we love flowers!

Reception Details

The Tent

We opted to use Black and White Party Rental’s brand new (at the time) tidewater sail cloth tent which was the perfect debut for the tent and the best decision for Julia and Justin’s reception space – the tent helped to define the reception space, added functional structure to work from (florals, lighting etc) and would have provided shelter if it had rained! Look at the lighting, you can likely see why the tidewater tent has quickly become one of our favorites!

The Decor

For tables we chose to use harvest tables (very West Coast) and then dressed them up with smaller details such as gold votives, crystal candle holders, and white runners. Cailyn and her team built a beautiful hanging centrepiece of greenery over the head table and created the tent entrance of our dreams, but more on that later! The emphasis on greenery flowed perfectly into our menu cards, napkins, and lounge furniture.

The lounge and smaller pieces seen on the tables were all brought in by Bespoke Decor and Darling Vintage. We also chose to rent Caneback dining chairs from Bespoke to elevate the reception seating. We loved how they gave English countryside vibes, were slightly in contrast with the chunkier harvest tables all while tying in the softer seating found in the lounge. Even though we have a lot of amazing seating options on the island we sometimes can’t help but bring in something new from Bespoke Decor based in Vancouver!

The Entrance

Sorry not sorry, it needed it’s own paragraph! As mentioned above, Cailyn and her team from Persephone Bloom built this incredible entrance piece that we are still in love with to this day. Built on site with precision and care, we watched while they turned an empty space into the most stunning entrance. With florals and candles cascading outwards from the tent, guests were ushered into the reception space to enjoy a delicious feast and an epic dance party.

We would be remiss to not mention the seating chart. It was a team effort that required a specific group chat. Mel (from Melanie Anne Designs) and our team worked together to make sure the measurements were perfect and Mel did an amazing job with the calligraphy. Even though the end result was beautiful, the process was not without its challenges – we accidentally cut an entire roll of velvet ribbon the wrong length! But we are problem solvers and can fix anything, in this case it just meant finding some new ribbon!

Late Night

After dinner there was cake (of course) and Travel Bar kept the drinks flowing. Guests continued to enjoy each others company whether they were chatting in the lounge, visiting at their tables, or dancing on the dance floor! A good time was had by all and the end of the night came too soon!

For a final note on design we thought we would share a  #weddinghack with you! We love to repurpose florals! Since the ceremony site is often cleaned up before the reception even begins it can be quite simple to repurpose ceremony florals in your reception space. Can you spot the aisle marker florals by the mobile bar in in the photo below? This is a great way to reduce your floral budget and your environmental impact on wedding day!

All in all it was an incredible weekend in Qualicum Beach. We loved the opportunity to work at a new (to us) venue, bring a beautiful vision to life and explore the area.

We simply adored working with Julia and Justin to create a beautiful day and the wedding of their dreams. We continue to wish them all the best in their life together!
