Today we are continuing our Love Isn’t Cancelled series with another wonderful couple, Krista & Ryan! Their motto this year was “Let’s do the damn thing!” and we couldn’t agree more.
Krista answered our questions below and not going to lie, we (ahem, Sara) shed a few tears at her beautiful words.
Krista & Ryan were supposed to get married in June 2020, but made the hard decision to postpone. They came to us shortly after postponing, asking for assistance with their 2021 wedding. We fell in love with Krista’s kind heart and positivity, and set her up with our lead planner, Sara.
As their would-have-been wedding date passed, and we entered into summer, they decided that they didn’t want to wait any more. They wanted to get married as soon as possible!
Krista & Ryan were married on August 30th, 2020 at the Inn at Laurel Point. They had originally planned to have 140 guests but ended up with an amazing group of 42 friends and family.
When and how did you make the decision to change your wedding plans? Were there any specific deciding factors?
We decided early April to postpone our original June 20, 2020 wedding. We initially set our new date for May of 2021, but by the end of June, and a few conversations later, we came up with the idea to just do the damn thing! We thought we had so many reasons to postpone the wedding but as time went on we realized what mattered most, and that was our love for each other. We thought to ourselves “if we have an opportunity to host a smaller wedding now instead of waiting till 2021 only to find out we will be in the same situation, let’s just do it!” After that point it was just a matter of getting all the ducks in a row and making it happen for August 30th!
How was your wedding day different than what you had imagined?
Although there were many friends and family dear to our hearts that could not attend, the wedding was even more incredible than we could have ever imagined. We received messages of excitement and love from loved ones who couldn’t attend, everyone was very supportive, understanding and happy that we had decided not to wait. We felt so much love from everyone!
How was your wedding day the same as what you had originally imagined?
We still got to have our dance party! And dance we did! With plenty of space for our guests to “Dis-Dance”, (a wonderful term our planner, Sara shared with us!) everyone had an extraordinary time! It was the safest big little party we all needed! We celebrated till the lights came on! Big thank you to Sara for making this happen for us!
Was there anything that turned out better than your original plan?
Everything turned out better than ever! I can’t even imagine what a better day would have looked like!
Are you still planning for any part of your original plan for a later date in the future? One year anniversary? Vow renewal? Reception celebration?
No plans, we got everything we wanted and more during our wedding!
We are however, looking forward to celebrating our one year anniversary exploring our beautiful province!
What would you want to say to other couples who are considering a smaller wedding?
We would say, absolutely go for it! There are no wrong decisions in life, if you don’t want to wait but don’t want to miss out on the wedding of your dreams we are here to tell you that this was the wedding of our dreams and changing our wedding plans last minute was the best choice we could have ever made.
What was your most memorable moment of the wedding day?
Ryan says his most memorable moment of the day was seeing me for the first time as I walked down the aisle. I would say one of my most memorable moments of the day was looking at all our honoured guests during the ceremony, seeing their reactions in real time and sharing in the excitement with them right in the moment. I don’t think I would have been able to make those intimate connections had we had our original guest list.
Anything else you’d like to share with us?
Sara Stevenson was quite honestly the magic that made our day perfectly amazing. We had less than 8 weeks to get our new plan into action and Sara made it happen. The day was flawless in our eyes and we know that is because of all the dedication Sara put into making it happen for us. She went above and beyond for us and we will never forget her kindness and support.
Thank you so much Krista (and Ryan!) for taking the time to answer our questions and trust us with your wedding day! xo
