Vendor Love: Shady Spaces

By Marley Poniedzielnik

If the tenting business had a celebrity it would be Nish from Shady Spaces. He’s covered – literally – some of the island’s biggest concerts including Laketown Shakedown, Rifflandia, SunFest, Shambhala, and more! Not only does he keep the rain (and sun!) away from some of Vancouver Island’s biggest festivals, but he also travels across British Columbia, the prairies, and much, much further!

What many people don’t know is that Nish and his company, Shady Spaces, also offers tenting for weddings and events. These unique, bedouin inspired stretch tents are not only stunning, but completely customizable.

We’ve seen Nish climb trees, scale rocks, and stand in the pouring rain or summer heat all to get the tent in the perfect place. We’ve collected a few photos from some of our weddings together so scroll down and take a look at these super unique tents!

Not only does Nish provide the tenting, he also provides lighting options that create that perfect ambience. He also has two different dance floor options so your guests can rip it up all night long. Maybe you need a stage for your wedding band!! He’s got those too!

With over 10 different tenting size options, 5 different colour tents, 2 different colour dance floors, you can truly make your wedding as unique as you want!

Danae + Jackson’s Wedding in the Forest in Maple Bay

We can’t brag about Nish’s lighting without a quick throw back to Danae and Jackson’s 2018 wedding in the forest of Maple Bay Manor. We played a pretty epic game of chicken with the forecast but in the end, the gamble paid off and Danae had the day of her dreams with an open air dinner reception in an old growth forest. Nish and his team rigged up the most beautiful ceiling of lights and the first came alive as the sun set over the lake!

Annelies + Dan’s Lakefront Wedding on Salt Spring Island

Heading to one of the Gulf Islands or further afield? Have no fear, Nish and his team travel and they’ll be able to bring everything you need for a great party. Nish has traveled with our team from Jordan River to Salt Spring Island to Quadra Island and everywhere in between.

Danielle + Jet’s Backyard Bash

One of Nish’s smallest tenting options is a little 20×20! This tent fits anywhere and is seriously the cutest thing. We often use this size of tent for the catering team but sometimes these tents are the perfect addition to a casual backyard bash. Lead planner, Anouk, worked with Danielle and Jet to create an intimate, cocktail style, backyard celebration and this little taupe gem from Shady Spaces created the perfect feel for their relaxed style of bash!

We love it when we have a site visit and we say “Can we actually do this?” and Nish says, “Yes!” and finds creative solutions to make our clients dreams come true.

Jessica + Keenan’s Colourful Long Table Dinner Reception

Jessica and Keenan’s wedding celebration took place on Jessica’s parent’s property in Qualicum Beach, a quick hop, skip, and a jump from Shady Spaces’ HQ in Cumberland. For their celebration, the name of the game was casual, yet elegant and this gorgeous tent did exactly that. While the August sun shone brightly above, the guests underneath were able to enjoy their dinner in the shade!

Madeline + Jackson’s Boho Inspired Brunch Reception

When we started working with Madeline and Jackson we knew a Shady Spaces tent was going to be a must. Madeline was picturing a beautiful mid day brunch celebration and absolutely had to have a stretch tent for the big day. It fight in perfectly with her vision for a boho style celebration complete with hanging macrame, greenery, and tons of wicker accents. On the Saturday of the May Long Weekend the sky was clear but guests loved the shady and intimate feeling the tenting overhead created!

Hayley + Ty’s Jordan River Wedding in the Trees

Haley and Ty hosted their wedding at their gorgeous home in Jordan River. They worked with lead planner, Dakota, and Nish to figure out exactly what size tent to get and ended up deciding on a beautiful white 32×50. The tent extended perfectly over their guest group and still had lots of room for their dance floor where they partied all night long!

Jen + Sam’s Wedding Celebration at Cowichan River Wilderness Lodge

Probably one of the best rain plans ever! It was going to be impossible to tent Jen and Sam’s long table in the forest if the rain showed up, so instead of worry too much about the September long weekend weather, we had Nish install a large tent on the lodge’s main lawn as our reception rain plan. Luckily the rain stayed away so we didn’t have to relocate the reception tables, and as a totally bonus the tent created the perfect space for cocktail hour lawn games for guests who wanted a break from all the sunshine!
